The Exemplary Mother 2009 Award, organized by Jamiyah Singapore, was held on 24 October 2009 at the Raffles Ballroom of Swissotel The Stamford in Singapore. H.E. S.R. Nathan, President of the Republic of Singapore, and his wife were the principal guests of honor.

The WISHES President, Dr Omar Mababaya, along with CHED-ARMM Commissioner Dr Norma M. Sharief and Prof. Casan Cana, as well as ambassadors and dignitaries from various countries had the opportunity to witness this event as  special guests of Datu Seri Abu Bakar Maidin, President of Jamiyah Singapore. The annual event is, indeed, exemplary and proves that respect for mothers, which is the pinnacle of respect for women, is one of the key elements of Islamic and universal values. Respect for parents is a must as stated in the following Qur'anic injunction:

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them, but address them in terms of honour. (Qur'an 17, Surah Al Israa 23-25)
