Admission Requirements

He (Allah) grants wisdom to whom He pleases; and he to whom wisdom is granted receives indeed a benefit overflowing; but none will grasp the Message but men of understanding.”

“He who called people to righteousness, there would be reward (assured) for him like the rewards of those who adhered to it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who called (people) to error, he shall have to carry (the burden) of its sin, like those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.”

WISHES adopts the following grading system in the graduate program (MA & PhD):

To maintain a good standing in the graduate program, the student must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.  In the event that his is not satisfied, the student will be put on probation and will only be given another semester to improve his GPA.

A student in a MA program who is on a probation shall be dismissed from the Graduate school if a) he fails to maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or better in the first semester or residence, or b) he fails to earn a grade-point average of 2.0 in the immediate succeeding semester, when a grade-point average lower than 2.0 was earned in the preceding semester, or c) he receives a non-credit mark for the same course the third time.

A student in a PhD program who is on a probation shall be dismissed from the Graduate school if a) he fails to maintain a grade point average of 1.75 or better in the first semester of residence, or b) he fails to earn a grade-point average of 1.75 in the immediate succeeding semester, when a grade-point average lower than 1.75 was earned in the preceding semester, or c) he receives a non-credit mark for the same course the third time.

 

PhD Comprehensive Examination

The PhD comprehensive examination aims to test the student's in depth knowledge of Islam according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah and his ability to analyze and integrate the importance of such authentic knowledge to man's total personality development.  Passing the PhD comprehensive examination is a pre-requisite to PhD thesis/book writing.  In case of failure in the PhD comprehensive examination, the student is allowed to retake the examination only once.  The retake examination must be done within one year of the first try.

 

Defense of PhD Thesis/Book

For doctoral oral defense, a committee (5 members including the chairman and the adviser) will be chosen from the WISHES International Board of Advisers.   Oral defense for Filipinos will be conducted in the Philippines while other nationalities will be in Saudi Arabia (either in the City of Jeddah, Makkah or Madinah) where the examinee outside the Kingdom can come on Umrah or Hajj visa. If there is a change in the venue, the doctoral examinee will be informed at least one month prior to the oral defense. 

Publication of Students’ Articles, Booklets and Books

All excellent essays, booklets and books written and submitted by the students for their course requirements will be published by the Wisdom Enrichment Foundation (WEFOUND) in this website and or in its website (http://www.wefound.org). This is line with the WEFOUND’s global mission to present the authentic teachings of Islam to mankind (especially English speakers) for the pleasure of Allah -- using modern information technology as well as effective and efficient tools of management, oral and written communication, education and training.  Thus, many will be able to read and benefit from the students’ academic outputs, which are based on authentic knowledge of Islam.  In this way, the universal message of Islam (Tawheed) in its purest form will be known to all (especially English speakers) worldwide, insha Allah.
