Course Guides for Islamic Studies

Student study or course guides, which include the need for sincerity, honesty and patience in the pursuit of knowledge for the sole pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, will be provided at the beginning of every learning module to help students focus on the most important aspects of each module and to prepare for the course requirements and final examinations.  There will be written assignments on essay question and answer format as well as writing of term papers or written projects by which students will be expected to critically analyze and evaluate the subject and the information sources they are using and draw conclusions with proofs from the Qur’an and authentic ahadith.  In most subjects, book reviews/essays/articles and/or term papers will be required, which will be graded on the bases of the following criteria:

1. Content (importance and relevance/significance)

4. Originality, Analysis & Critical Thinking

In addition, the students will be given self-assessment or personality evaluation tests before and after the start of every semester. They will be asked, among others, to assess about their levels of faith, righteousness and personality development in terms of their relations and duties to Allah, to their selves, families, relatives, neighbors, friends, and the society as a whole.  In short, the students will be asked to what extend they implement the virtuous Islamic teachings they learn from their Islamic lessons.  In this way, they will be made conscious of their obligation to implement every Islamic knowledge that they learn and share it to others for the sole pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Examinations (both objective and essay types of questions) for some subjects will be conducted online using the MOODLE (Modular Object Oriented Delivery Learning Experience), the most sophisticated yet versatile and friendly mode of delivering online courses,  where professors and students can login for easy and effective teaching-learning purpose.  To avoid cheating, students from the time they will file their application for admission, have to agree on the institution's policy for them to observe honesty and avoid any sort of cheating, including plagiarism.  Prior to their taking the examinations, they will be reminded of the Qur'anic injunctions as well as authentic ahadith on the punishments for cheating and lying.  In addition, since the MOODLE has a timer for examinations, students will not have time to cheat.

Rules and Regulations:

 1.       The MOODLE (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is used for taking the online examinations only.

2.       Students are requested to inform their professors two days before taking the examination in order to get their usernames and passwords to be able login in the MOODLE.

3.       Students are allowed to go to the MOODLE to take the examinations only to take the examinations online.

4.       No student is allowed to open any of the examinations to browse it when it is not the scheduled time and date for the examination.

5.       Once the student goes to the MOODLE, he/she has to take the examination otherwise he/she violates the above rules and thus commits disobedience and cheating which is strictly prohibited as it is a big sin that makes one out of the fold of Islam.  The Prophet sallAllahu 'alayhi wa salaam said: “Whoever cheats us is not of us.” (Muslim). This institution is intended to develop Muslims who are sincere, truthful, God-fearing and ideal Muslims who will be assets to the Muslim Ummah for the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala; and thus be among the outstanding Muslims who will attain success, especially supreme success in the life hereafter.

6.       In taking the examination, it is very important to read the instruction.

7.       Students are requested to save or print (using PDF) the results of their examinations for their own record purpose.

8.       Students are not allowed to share their passwords and usernames to others.

9.       Students who can not take any of the scheduled examinations may request to take examination at a later date. Likewise, they may request to submit their papers (assignments) at a later date if they can not submit them on time.

10.   In most cases, we communicate to students with copy furnished in one of our e-mail addresses. We, therefore, request all our students to check their "spam" e-mails to see to it that they receive our messages.

11.Students whose e-mail addresses do not bear their real names and or family names are requested to get new email addresses bearing their names and/or family names for easy identification.

12.Students whose e-mail addresses do not bear their real names and or family names are requested to get new email addresses bearing their names and/or family names for easy identification. Students are advised to get free email at www.gmail.com  (www.google.com) for compatibility with our email address.

13.Students who are on scholarships are expected to take the examination and finish their course requirements as scheduled.  The maximum delayed period/time will be two weeks for every semester. They are also expected to maintain at least an average total grade of 1.5 or B+ otherwise they will forfeit or lose their scholarships.
