Admission Requirements

The WISHES Islamic Studies curriculum is basically based on the authentic knowledge of Islam (i.e., the Qur'an and the Sunnah).  It aims to produce sincere, God-fearing and peaceful-loving Muslims who are assets not only to their respective societies and countries but also to the international community by virtue of their adherence to the real teachings of Islam.  To have a well-rounded curriculum, WISHES also includes English and Arabic languages as well as other important subjects  such as Education, Guidance and Counseling, Psychology, Public Speaking, Leadership and Management Development that will help develop students’ confidence, communication and leadership skills; and thus have a well-balanced personality as ideal Muslims who will play positive and great roles in building peaceful and progressive society.  The Islamic Studies curriculum as a whole develops the total personality development of students in order to attain success, especially supreme success in the eternal life hereafter.

(Note:  Full time students are allowed to take 5 subjects (15 units) per semester.  Only students with excellent grades may take the maximum 6 subjects (18 units) per semester. Part time students can take 3-4 subjects (9-12 units) per semester.

This subject introduces the students to the key concepts, beliefs, practices, aspects, and excellence of Islam according to authentic sources.

Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism or Oneness of God)

This subject discusses the concept, categories, principles, conditions and implications of Tawheed as the central concept of Islamic belief.

3. IS 102

Pillars and Articles of Faith in Islam: Explanations in the Light of the Qur’ân and the Sunnah

This subject teaches the basic authentic pillars and articles of faith which every Muslim must know about Islam. It also explains their benefits to man both in this world and the life hereafter and how one can increase more forms of worship for the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

4. IS 103

Aqeedah and Eeman (Belief & Faith)

This subject explains the meaning and principles of Aqeedah and Eeman, the characteristics of Faith concerning its completion and its levels, the beliefs of the saved sect and the methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah in establishing Islamic beliefs.

The Qur'an: Qualities and Sciences

This subject describes the sciences, excellent qualities and benefits of the Holy Qur'an as a complete book of guidance from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

6. IS 105

The Sunnah and the Science of Hadith

This subject gives details on the principles, characteristics and benefits of the Sunnah and the science of hadith as the second revealed book of knowledge and guidance.  It also discusses the need for the ummah to revive and adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallAllahu 'alayhi wa salaam in order to attain development and success both in this world and the life hereafter.

7. IS 106.1

Qur’an Studies Level 1 Memorization (in Arabic) and Understanding Its Meaning & Tafseer

This subject explains the Science of Tafsir, its sources, misconceptions and famous commentaries as well as its prophetic commentary. It teaches correct recitation (tajweed), memorization and interpretation of Al-Fatiha, Ayaatul Qursi (2:255), the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah (2:285-286) and Surahs (Chapters) 112-114.

Qur’an Studies Level 2

This subject teaches correct recitation (tajweed), memorization and interpretation of Chapters 85-111 of the Holy Qur’an.

This subject teaches correct recitation (tajweed), memorization and interpretation of Chapters 78-84 of the Holy Qur’an)

Hadith Studies Level 1 (The Forty Hadith)

This subject develops students' memorization, understanding and appreciation of prophetic sunnah based on the famous 40 Ahadith Collections by Imam An-Nawawi.

This subject develops students' memorization, understanding and appreciation of prophetic sunnah based on the famous 40 Ahadith Qudsi or Sacred Ahadeeth.

This subject develops students' memorization, understanding and appreciation of prophetic sunnah based on the famous 40 Ahadith on Personality Development.

Supplications (Manners and Etiquettes)

This subject gives further details about the rationale, manners and etiquettes of doing supplications according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah.  It also enumerates some bid'ah (innovations) and errors in supplications that should be avoided.

This subject trains students' understanding and memorization of selected supplications and their benefits from the Qur’an and the Sunnah

Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)

This subject develops students' understanding of the benefits of Dhikr and memorization of selected remembrance (Dhikr) from the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

Seerah (Life Story) of Prophet Muhammad sallAllahu 'alayhi wa salaam

 

 

This subject explains the history of the life and achievements of Prophet Muhammad in Makkah and Madinah with emphasis on his characteristics not only as a Messenger and Prophet but also as a leader and model in all aspects, including his manners and wisdom of conveying the message of Islam to the non-Muslims.

17. IS 112

The Ideal Muslim: The True Islamic Personality of the Muslim as Defined in the Qur’an and the Sunnah

This subject describes the qualities of ideal Muslim man in relation to his Creator, himself, parents, family, neighbors, friends and the society in the light of Qur'anic injunctions and authentic ahadith. It also includes how ideal woman should deal with non-Muslims, jinn and animals in promoting peace and harmony for the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

18. IS 113

The Ideal Muslimah: The True Islamic Personality of the Muslim Woman as Defined in the Qur’an & the Sunnah

This subject describes the qualities of ideal Muslim woman in relation to her Creator, herself, parents, family, neighbors, friends and the society in the light of Qur'anic injunctions and authentic ahadith. It also includes how ideal woman should deal with non-Muslims, jinn and animals for the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Discussions include reputation of recurrent issues concerning the status, role and rights of women in Islam.

Nawaqeed Al Islam wa Kaba'ir (Nullifiers of Islam and Major Sins)

This subject identifies the beliefs and deeds that lead people out of the fold of Islam and/or commit major sins. It also describes some punishments for those who commit major sins.

Life in this World, Death and the Life Hereafter: Implications to Da'wah

This subject explains the life of this temporary world, death, dying, laws of inheritance, and the life in the eternal world: its punishments and rewards. Through this course, students will learn and strive hard to be sincere, God-fearing, righteous, ideal Muslims and Du’at in order to please Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Introduction to  Usul Al-Fiqh (Fundamentals of Jurisprudence)

This subject introduces students to the principles and methods of Usul Al-Fiqh (Fundamentals of Jurisprudence).  It also explains the rationale and excellence of the divine law and the need to uphold and adhere to it in attaining success.

Halal wa Haram (Lawful and Unlawful in Islam)

This subject identifies the things and deeds/practices which are considered lawful which every Muslim need to practice and those which they must avoid as unlawful according to the Qur’an and the Sunnah (authentic Ahadith).

Da’wah According to the Qur’an and the Sunnah (Level 1)

This subject covers the rationale and benefits of attaining effective da'wah according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah in attaining development and success both in this world and the life hereafter,  the characteristics and manners expected of Du’ât (those who invite people to Islam) as exemplified in the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

This subject explains the message and sources of Da'wah and the methodology and guidelines on inviting people to Islam with hikmah (wisdom) and beautiful preaching.

Enjoining the Right and Forbidding the Wrong

This subject covers analysis of the concept Ma'ruf (Right) and Munkar (Wrong) in Islam based on the popular book written on the subject by the famous Muslim scholar, Sheikhul Islam ibn Taymiyyah.

Stories of the Prophets

This subject explains the knowledge and important lessons and characteristics of ideal Muslims that can be derived from the lives and works of the great Prophets as foretold in the Qur'an and authentic ahadith.

Da'wah Methodologies of the Prophets

This subject deals with the wisdom and manners of the Prophets in conveying the message of Islam.

Stories of the Prophet’s Companions

This subject deals with the study of personal lives, qualities, virtues and exemplary characteristics of selected companions of the Prophet sallAllahu 'alayhi wa salaam.

29. IS 123 Islamic History and Civilization This subject studies the history of Islam from the time of the Prophet's birth up to the time of the propagation of Islam and its civilization.  

30. IS 124

Righteousness and Their Rewards

This subject explains the concept of righteousness in Islam and enumerates various ways of doing righteousness according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah and their subsequent rewards, which students are made to reflect in terms of their importance in improving eeman, personality development and da'wah.

Wisdom Forum (Effective Public Speaking in Islam and Da’wah)

This subject teaches students the principles and guidelines of effective public speaking in Islam. It also includes selected samples of well-written khutbas (speeches) by the imams of the two holy mosques to encourage students to be effective in da'wah.

Fatawa (Islamic Rulings)

This subject covers selected fatawa on various issues confronting the present Muslim ummah, taken from the Fatawa of renowned Muslim Scholars from the Ahlul Sunnah wa Al-Juma’a.

Understanding Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) (His Character, Teachings and Contributions to Humanity): Implications to Peace and Success

This subject explains the character and contributions of the last and final Prophet and Messenger of Allah to mankind.  It enlightens students to the importance of understanding the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) as Allah's mercy to mankind and the way to peace and success.

Thesis/Booklet Writing on Islam (50-100 pages, excluding Bibliography)

As a prerequisite for graduation, the student is required to write a scholarly paper or booklet on any topic relevant to aqeedah, personality development or da'wah.
